- Tangipahoa means “ear of corn” or “those who gather corn”
- The Parish is 51 miles long and 18 miles wide, with 500,000 acres or 790 square miles.
- The City of Ponchatoula is the oldest incorporated city in Tangipahoa
Parish. Ponchatoula derives its name from the Choctaw Indian language meaning "hair to hang" because of the abundance of Spanish moss on the trees surrounding the area.
- Tangipahoa Parish is the leading strawberry producing parish in the State.
- Tangipahoa Parish wages have increased more than 30% since 2001.
